We have been made aware of incidents relating to the valves on 9 litre water extinguishers manufactured by Jewel Saffire.
In the incidents, the valves have failed, having experienced a stress fracture. The result is that the valve head goes off and the valve splits, leaving the threaded portion of the valve in the cylinder. Jewel Saffire has advised us that incidents relate to a small number of 9 litre water extinguishers manufactured between June and July 2009.
The manufacturing date in the format mm/yy can be found on the bottom of the extinguisher beneath the skirt, which is removable on these units. In this case, any units stamped 06/09 or 07/09 should be treated with caution.
These extinguishers have been distributed via the internet and therefore may not carry a maintenance label, so identification by skirt removal will be required. As this requires handling the extinguisher to identify the manufacture time, handle these extinguishers with extreme caution.
Any end-users are advised to contact Jewell Saffire direct or contact an extinguisher company to carry out any safety checks.
If you have any concerns about any extinguishers, please contact Mike Ditanna at Jewel Saffire on 0845 330 5406.
